‘Fallout’ Series to Appear on Amazon From ‘Westworld’ Creators

Another popular video-game franchise is getting the Silver Screen treatment, this time it’s the gritty wastelands of Fallout an RPG developed and published by Interplay Productions in 1997. The theme of which is a post-apocalyptic and retro-futuristic setting, taking place in the mid-22nd century decades after a global nuclear war in an alternate history timeline. You assume control of a civilian living inside a ‘vault’, underground quarters built to protect the population from harsh radiation and even harsher monsters lurking outside. Fallout is a staple in gaming culture thanks to the excellent open-world mechanics but the writing of the show receives equal praise, let’s hope they can honour the standard. I’m sure they will.

Jonathon Nolan and Lisa Joy creators of ‘Westworld’ are heading up development over at Amazon, here’s what they had to say about it – “‘Fallout’ is one of the greatest game series of all time. Each chapter of this insanely imaginative story has cost us countless hours we could have spent with family and friends. So we’re incredibly excited to partner with Todd Howard and the rest of the brilliant lunatics at Bethesda to bring this massive, subversive, and darkly funny universe to life with Amazon Studios.”

Bethesda’s very own Todd Howard will be executive producing so it’s fair to assume the tone and themes of the games will be depicted accurately. He goes on to say,“Over the last decade, we looked at many ways to bring ‘Fallout’ to the screen, but it was clear from the moment I first spoke with Jonah and Lisa a few years ago, that they and the team at Kilter were the ones to do it right. We’re enormous fans of their work and couldn’t be more excited to work with them and Amazon Studios.”

Albert Cheng, COO and co-head of television at Amazon Studios adds,“’Fallout’ is an iconic global franchise, with legions of fans worldwide and a rich, deeply compelling storyline that powers it. And Jonah and Lisa are the perfect storytellers to bring this series to life, we’re thrilled to join with Bethesda to bring Fallout to television.”

A release date has not been announced but we’ll keep you updated.
